Los Angeles, CA – Pedestrian Killed in Wreck on Vermont Ave near 120th St
Los Angeles, CA (May 25, 2022) – A fatal pedestrian crash happened in southwestern Los Angeles on Tuesday, May 24. Initial reports reveal the hit-and-run accident occurred at the intersection of Vermont Avenue near 120th Street at approximately 3:00 a.m.
Members of the medical examiner’s office, the LA County Coroner’s office, and the California Highway Patrol were observed at the scene in West Athens just after 6:00 a.m.
Officials who responded to the scene found a wheelchair near the victim on the sidewalk. It is possible the victim was in a wheelchair when he was hit, however, that information has not yet been confirmed.
Police have not provided a description of the hit-and-run vehicle at this time. There is not a marked crosswalk at the intersection, but it remains unclear whether the victim was crossing the street at the time.
Vermont Avenue was closed while responders investigated at the scene. Nothing further has been reported.
We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the family of the deceased victim.
California Pedestrian Accidents
Approximately 67 people lose their lives daily in California traffic collisions. Due to being completely unprotected while they travel, pedestrians are more likely to suffer debilitating injuries or even lose their lives while on the road. Every year, close to 900 pedestrians lose their lives in traffic collisions in California.
Oftentimes, negligent drivers cause accidents that end up injuring pedestrians. The lives of pedestrians are cut short by drivers who choose to drink/use drugs, drive at unsafe speeds, and pay more attention to their phones and other things than the road. Pedestrians continue to be hurt and killed despite the many laws in place to promote their safety.
