Cerritos, CA – Two Dead in Car Accident on 605 Fwy near South St Caused by Wrong Way Driver
Cerritos, CA (February 18, 2022) – An auto accident ended in fatal injuries in the early morning hours of February 18 in Cerritos. Two people lost their lives when a wrong-way driver collided with another vehicle on the southbound 605 Freeway.
Sources say the incident occurred near South Street when a red Hyundai Elantra stopped on the southbound shoulder and made a U-turn when it began heading north in the southbound lanes.
The Hyundai then slammed head-on into another vehicle headed south. Both vehicles immediately caught fire. A woman was pulled out of one of the vehicles but she died on-site.
The driver of the second vehicle also lost their life on-site. Neither has been identified at this time. No passengers were present in either car at the time of the collision.
Police continue to investigate why the driver decided to travel the wrong way on the freeway. The southbound side of the freeway was closed for several hours while crews worked at the scene.
Our thoughts are with everyone affected by this fatal accident in Cerritos. We would like to offer our sincere condolences to the families of the deceased victims.
Car Accidents in California
More than 400,000 vehicle accidents occur in California per year, 55,000 of which take place in Los Angeles. This number is on the rise and gets higher each year, leaving victims and their families to deal with difficult and stressful consequences.
Victims and their family members may suffer lasting impacts from vehicle collisions. Although we hope that everyone walks away from a crash scene unscathed, this is not often the case. Vehicle collisions throughout California end the lives of over 3,200 people each year, and more than 270,000 sustain injuries.
Unfortunately, a large percentage of these collisions are the result of driver negligence. Some forms of driver negligence include reckless driving, speeding, impaired driving, fatigued driving, and more. Driver negligence accounts for more than 94% of all car crashes in the United States every year.
When a loved one is lost due to the negligent actions of another driver, surviving family members may feel frustrated and overwhelmed. A wrongful death lawyer in California will be able to help you move forward from the aftermath of your loved one’s crash in more ways than one.
